The Worst Meal I've Ever Had | Royal Caribbean Voyager of the Seas Cruise Day 2

It's a day at sea on day two of our Royal Caribbean cruise aboard the Voyager of the Seas. We take a closer look at the ship, including the Promenade and Sports Deck, we dive into more of the food at the Main Dining Room and experience an... interesting dinner at Giovanni's Table. Add to that a bunch of trivia and you've got yourself a full day of sailing!

The Promenade & The Great Drink Package Debate

We started our morning with a deep dive into the Promenade. It’s the heart of the ship, featuring everything from luxury shops like Coach to the 24-hour Cafe Promenade.

The Coffee Lowdown:

  • Specialty Coffee: (Lattes, etc.) usually costs extra.

  • The Free Stuff: You can get standard coffee, tea, orange juice, and iced tea for free inside the cafe or at dining locations.

Is a Drink Package Worth It?

I get asked this a lot. I don't drink alcohol, so the Deluxe Package ($55–$120/day) is a pass for me. However, Royal Caribbean has a rule: if one adult in a cabin gets the alcohol package, everyone of legal age in that cabin usually has to get it. That can add up to $300/day just for one person to drink! If you're a light drinker or a non-drinker like me, the math just doesn't always work out.

Exploring the Decks: From Pickleball to the Helipad

We hit the sports deck to check out the FlowRider (stationary surfing), mini-golf, and water slides.

Joe’s Pro Tip: If you want a quiet place to escape the crowds, head to the Helipad at the very front of the ship. It’s used as a seating area during the day, offers incredible 360-degree ocean views, and usually has a nice, cooling breeze.

A Lucky Break: Winning the Zipline!

We attended an excursion seminar and—believe it or not—we actually won! The prize was a zipline excursion at CocoCay. Since it was only one ticket, we asked to swap it for two tickets to the Hideaway (the adults-only beach), and they were happy to accommodate us.

The Giovanni’s Table "Incident"

We decided to go specialty for dinner at Giovanni’s Table, the ship’s Italian spot. While the bread service and Carrie’s filet mignon were great, I ran into a bit of a "Carbonara Crisis."

The menu described a traditional Carbonara, but what arrived was an Alfredo-style pasta with a hard-poached egg on top. Not exactly what I was expecting! After a 40-minute wait for food, it was a bit disappointing.

The Recovery: The staff was incredibly apologetic and offered to make a new dish, but we had a show to catch. I ended up heading to the Main Dining Room for a "second dinner" of beef tenderloin and apple crumble.

Moral of the story: Even if one meal misses the mark, you're never going to go hungry on this ship!

Victory at "Majority Rules"

We capped off the night with the adults-only Majority Rules game. The goal is to guess the most popular answer in the room.

The Winning Answer: When asked for a pet peeve, I went with: "People who use the elevator to go up only one floor."

It resonated with the crowd, and thanks to a few "funny answer" bonus points, we won! We walked away with a sweet collapsible tote bag and the title of Day 2 Champions.

What’s Next?

That’s a wrap on our day at sea. Tomorrow, we finally hit land in Cozumel, Mexico! Expect wrestling, tacos, and maybe a few more "The Canadians" shoutouts.
