The Disney Dining Plan Is BACK! + More Announcements

Walt Disney World made some huge announcements today affecting people travelling in 2024, Park Reservations are going away, THE DINING PLAN IS BACK and so much more.

Walt Disney World Just Announced HUGE Changes for 2024

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World next year? Disney just dropped several major updates that could completely change how you plan your vacation.

And honestly?

Some of these are the biggest quality-of-life improvements Disney fans have been asking for since the parks reopened.

From the return of the Disney Dining Plan to the end of park reservations for most guests, there’s a lot to unpack.

Park Reservations Are (Mostly) Going Away

The first major announcement surrounds park reservations.

Starting in 2024, guests with date-based tickets will no longer need park reservations to visit the parks.

That means if you book a standard Walt Disney World vacation package, you won’t have to wake up wondering whether you remembered to reserve your park days correctly. Your ticket will simply work for the dates you purchased.

The only guests who will still need reservations are:

  • Annual Passholders

  • Cast Members

And even that system is getting an upgrade.

“Good To Go” Days for Annual Passholders

Disney is introducing something called “Good To Go” days.

On those days, Annual Passholders will be able to enter the parks without needing a reservation at all.

This adds to the existing rule allowing passholders to visit parks after 2 PM without reservations.

For frequent Disney visitors, this is a pretty massive step toward making the parks feel spontaneous again instead of operating like a theme park spreadsheet simulator.

The Disney Dining Plan Is FINALLY Returning

This is the big one.

The Disney Dining Plan is officially coming back.

For families, food lovers, and anyone who likes having their trip feel more streamlined, this is huge news.

Disney confirmed two options will return:

  • Quick-Service Dining Plan

  • Standard Disney Dining Plan

If you’ve never used it before, the Dining Plan can make budgeting significantly easier while also encouraging people to try more restaurants throughout the trip.

There’s no confirmation yet on whether Disney will bring back free dining promotions tied to resort stays, but if they do, that could become one of the hottest vacation deals available again.

Extended Resort Guest Hours Continue Through 2024

Disney also confirmed that the extended park hours program will continue through 2024.

Here’s how it works:

Early Theme Park Entry

Guests staying at any Disney Resort hotel get early park access each day.

Extended Evening Hours

Guests staying at Deluxe Resorts or Deluxe Villas get access to late-night park hours on select nights.

Those extra hours can make a massive difference for crowd levels, especially if you’re trying to squeeze in high-demand attractions without marathon wait times.

Disney Genie+ Changes Are Coming

Disney also acknowledged one of the biggest frustrations guests have had in recent years: Genie+.

The current system forces guests to wake up early and fight for Lightning Lane reservations while already inside the parks, which can feel less magical and more like competitive speed-refreshing.

Disney says changes are coming in 2024 that will allow guests to book Lightning Lane selections before their park visit.

Details are still limited, but the goal appears to be reducing stress and making planning easier before you even arrive.

Which, honestly, is probably the sentence most Disney fans wanted to hear.

When Do These Changes Start?

All of these updates are currently scheduled to begin for visits starting January 9, 2024.

Vacation bookings for those dates opened on May 31, 2023.

Final Thoughts

Disney’s 2024 updates feel like a direct response to years of guest feedback.

The biggest wins?

  • Fewer reservation headaches

  • More flexibility for passholders

  • The return of the Dining Plan

  • Easier Genie+ planning

  • Continued resort guest perks

For longtime Disney fans, it feels a little like the parks are rediscovering some of their old magic… while still trying to modernize the experience.

And honestly?

The return of the Dining Plan alone is probably going to make a lot of families very happy.
