The Ultimate Guide to the Disney Skyliner
After this, you’re going to know everything there is to know about the Disney Skyliner.
Hey everybody, welcome to the channel! I’m Joe, and today we’re talking all about Disney’s Skyliner—whether you’re a first-timer, need a refresher, or just enjoy hearing about it like I do.
What Is the Disney Skyliner?
The Disney Skyliner is a gondola-style transportation system that carries guests above Walt Disney World, connecting several resorts and parks.
Skyliner Resorts:
Disney’s Pop Century Resort
Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (main hub)
Disney’s Riviera Resort
Park Access:
EPCOT (International Gateway entrance between the UK & France)
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
How the Skyliner Routes Work
No matter where you start, Caribbean Beach Resort is the main hub.
From there:
One line goes directly to Hollywood Studios
Another line goes to Riviera Resort, then continues to EPCOT
Important: You’ll always need to transfer at Caribbean Beach.
Capacity & Seating
Each Skyliner gondola can hold:
Up to 10 guests normally
Up to 6 guests if accommodating mobility devices (wheelchairs, ECVs, strollers, etc.)
When it’s not busy, your party may get a gondola to yourselves. During peak times, expect to share with other guests.
Operating Hours
Opens 1 hour before park opening
Closes 90 minutes after park closing
This is especially important for Early Entry, since resort guests can enter parks 30 minutes early.
Transportation Tips (Important!)
If you’re staying at a Skyliner resort:
There are NO buses to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios
The Skyliner is your primary transportation
However, if the Skyliner goes down, Disney will provide bus transportation as backup.
How Fast Is It?
Very fast—especially in the morning.
During early entry, we often had:
Almost no wait
Travel time of about 5 minutes total across both lines
It’s one of the quickest ways to get to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios.
Understanding Skyliner Lines & Wait Times
Morning Strategy
Arrive early for minimal wait
Lines grow quickly closer to park opening
End-of-Night Reality
After shows like:
Luminous (EPCOT)
Fantasmic! (Hollywood Studios)
…lines can get long—especially at the Caribbean Beach hub.
The Biggest Bottleneck to Watch For
If you’re staying at Pop Century or Art of Animation, here’s the issue:
Guests from both parks funnel into the same line at Caribbean Beach.
We experienced:
A 1-hour wait to get back to Pop Century
Overflow lines extending well beyond the main queue
This only happened once—but it’s something to plan for.
Pro Tip: Avoiding Long Waits
If you want to skip the chaos:
Leave before nighttime shows end, OR
Use alternate transportation like:
Uber
Minnie Van
Lyft
Accessibility & Boarding
The Skyliner is constantly moving, so you’ll step on while it’s in motion.
However:
A separate loading loop is available
Gondolas can fully stop for guests using wheelchairs, ECVs, or needing extra time
What Happens During Delays?
Like any system, the Skyliner can stop occasionally.
During our trip:
We rode it 14 times in 9 days
Only experienced one outage lasting about 10 minutes
When delays happen:
Stay seated
Listen for announcements
Be patient—it usually resumes quickly
Final Thoughts
The Disney Skyliner is:
Fast
Efficient
Scenic
And one of the best transportation options at Walt Disney World
Just be aware of peak times—especially at night—and plan accordingly.
